A living on the road checklist is tough to create because it’s entirely up to the person what they want in their suitcase. This checklist gives you an idea of what to expect and the various things people pack when they move. Some people take this as a way to help radicalize their lifestyle and leave everything behind, but others may see it as a guide for them to plan their packing list.
The first main point of this living on the road checklist is Travel light: Eliminating as much as you can from your suitcase is essential for those hoping to pack light. However, if you plan on doing laundry, you’ll still need at least one outfit to wear every day. The rest of your belongings should be kept in self-storage whenever possible, and it will free up much-needed room in your suitcase!
The second main point is to have items that are “multi-purpose” so you won’t have clutter in your car. For example, you could pack a small table because it can be used as a cutting board for food or an ironing board. This will directly affect how much weight you will try and carry with you at the end of the day. We always recommend you make sure you take less than 40 pounds since any more could lead to injuries or leaving behind some of your belongings.
The third point of this living on the road checklist is that you should experience the journey. Some people are so focused on getting to their destination that they forget what is in front of them. Your drive time would be better spent discovering new music, conversing with your passenger, or simply taking in the scenery. You will want to have some entertainment so you can get through some of your driving times. Most cars come with an aux cord, but make sure you purchase one before you hit the real road if yours does not.
The fourth point of this living on the road checklist is planning out your stops along your route because it can be expensive. If you are one of the folks who does not plan out their visits, you may run out of money. If you aim to pack light, you will be able to accomplish more. Also, make sure you have your identification with you, as certain states need it. If you are planning on visiting any big cities, make sure to read up on what type of ID is required for that state or country.
The fifth point of this living on the road checklist is that if you are not experienced, then it’s best to take I-80 or I-90; if possible, it will be easier if there is an accident or just getting lost.
